“Time For Change, Time For BJP. Bahut Hui Mehngai Ki Maar, Abki Baar Modi Sarkar,” Singh wrote on twitter.

Modi's supporters had been chanting the slogan, tweaking the original 'Har Har Mahadev' that reveres Lord Shiva.

According to sources, Dwarka Peeth Shankarachayra Swaroopanand Saraswati has complained to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and urged to stop encouraging worshipping of any individual.

On Sunday, Modi took to microblogging site Twitter and asked his supporters not to use this slogan in future.

“Some enthusiastic supporters are using slogan ‘Har Har Modi’. I respect their enthusiasm but request not to use this slogan in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile strongly opposing the 'Har Har Modi' slogan, senior Congress leader and Union Minister Salman Khurshid had on Sunday requested the Election Commission of India to take cognizance of it.

"We respect democracy but God is above it...I request EC to take cognisance of the slogan used by BJP," Khurshid told reporters.
