New Delhi: Amid growing popularity of Narendra Modi within the saffron party, all eyes are set on the Gujarat CM during the national council meet of Bharatiya Janata Party.

With the spotlight on Modi, who has been projected by some as the party's prime ministerial face, BJP is likely to include Narendra Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the party’s Parliamentary Board. It is expected that the party may make the announcement during the conclave on Saturday.

The move will be a major boost to Modi’s PM candidature, whose popularity has grown significantly to make a mark on the national polity.

In the national executive meeting on Saturday, BJP is expected chalk out a strategy to project itself as an alternative in the next general elections.  The second day of the three-day conclave will see BJP leaders discuss the strategy to challenge UPA government's "failure" to revive the economy and the role BJP should play in the coming days.

The rising stock of Modi was visible during the first day of the Conclave as party leaders, including Rajnath Singh, gave him a special welcome and noted that the European Union is recognising his achievements.

Modi was lauded by BJP President Rajnath Singh for achieving the unprecedented feat of winning three consecutive assembly elections in Gujarat, with Singh saying no other BJP chief minister has such a record. However, the BJP was non-committal if the issue of who will be its prime ministerial candidate is settled in Modi's favour.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Who shall be the PM candidate of BJP, the party's Parliamentary Board will decide at the appropriate time.”
