Jaswant, a sitting Lok Sabha MP from Darjeeling, has expressed his desire to contest the polls from Barmer in Rajasthan. He is a sitting MP from Darjeeling in West Bengal.

There are reports that Jaswant, who is adamant on contesting from Barmer, will file his nominations on March 24 as an independent candidate if the BJP fails to give him a ticket.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, however, played down reports of Jaswant’s threat, saying the party leaders have aspirations at the time of elections and there is nothing wrong about it.

According to reports, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is also favouring Colonel (retired) Sonaram ever since he joined the BJP earlier this month. The Chief Minister believes that the Jat leader has a better chance as the constituency has a large Jat population.
