New Delhi: In order to buck the anti-incumbency against it, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dropped nearly half of its sitting councillors from the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The distribution of tickets came as a disappointment to the Poorvanchal candidates. In the last MCD elections, 36 Poorvanchal candidates were in the battlefield which has been reduced to one third in this year’s elections.

In the political corridors, discussions on ticket distribution are at peak. It is being said that the BJP denied tickets to those who faced defeat in 2007 polls. What came as a surprise was that those candidates who had clean image amongst the masses were not fielded in the elections. Ticket distribution has led to intense dissatisfaction within the BJP.

The prominent BJP councillors who have been denied tickets are-Jagdish Mamgai Chairman of the Construction Committee, former Mayor Prithviraj Sahni, VK Monga Chairman of the health committee, Harish Awasthi, Ved Prakash Gupta , Maltio Verma, Prabha Singh, Gaurab Khari, Anju Jain, Rajkumar Poddar, Harbansh Lal, Uppal Dharmveer Singh, Mahinder Kaur Narula and Anish Jain.

More so, as per the list released by the BJP nearly 50 percent of the women candidates are relatives of sitting BJP councillors, district president and party functionaries. The successful women candidates in the list are Dr Shobha Vijendra wife of party’s state unit president Vijendra Gupta, Reema Kaur wife of councillor Inderpreet Singh, Poonam Bharadwaj daughter –in-law of Suresh Bharadwaj, Nirmal Rohtash wife of councillor Rohtash Singh, Nisha Bahduri daughter-in-law of councillor Brahma Prakash and Jagroshini daughter-in-law of Begampur councillor Jaibhagwan Yadav.

Moreover, the party workers are raising questions on few names like Mamata Nagpal, Vandana Bhagat daughter of former MLA Sushil Chaudhary and Sarla Chaudhary wife of Kisan Morcha president Kadam Singh Chaudhary.
