The BJP claimed that Varanasi DM Pranjal Yadav has close relations with the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh and he was working on the directions of Mulayam Singh Yadav-led party.

The BJP questioned why its party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was denied permission to conduct a rally in Rohania, a rural assembly constituency outside Varanasi city, while Rahul’s cavalcade was allowed to cross this area.

“Rahul's "farewell road show" is happening in the area where Modi ji was not allowed to hold a rally. One more biased conduct of Varanasi RO,” senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi tweeted on Saturday.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley also minced no words in attacking the Election Commission for allowing Rahul to hold a roadshow in the same area where Modi was denied to hold a rally.

Jaitley said there were clear political motives behind not allowing Modi to hold a rally in the spiritual city.

Taking a swipe at the Election Commission, belligerent BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi said Rahul Gandhi can hold 50 roadshows in Varanasi but it won’t matter, but denying Modi permission to hold a rally in the same area from where Rahul’s roadshow has passed is wrong.

Rahul Gandhi kick-started his roadshow in Varanasi on Saturday with a sea of supporters and locals part of his enormous parade.

The 43-year old leader alongside Congress candidate from Varanasi Ajay Rai started his roadshow in Muslim-dominated Gol Gadda area.

Rahul’s roadshow comes a day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, who is contesting from Varanasi, also took out an enormous roadshow in the holy city and claimed that BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will ‘lose badly’ in the elections here.

Modi had also conducted a colossal roadshow on May 8 in Varanasi amidst a massive horde of supporters in the holy city.

Meanwhile, in a major boost to the Congress’ chances of political glory in Varanasi, Rahul’s roadshow was greeted by the family of legendary musician Bismillah Khan who had earlier refused to support a government-led by Modi at the Center.

Ustad Bismillah Khan’s family not only played shehnai during Rahul’s roadshow but also wore Congress scarves, clearly suggesting where there political loyalties lie.
