Jamshedpur: The Rail Roko Movement organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday demanding to run coaching trains on Kharagpur-Tatanagar-Rourkela route managed to make an impact on the state authorities.

The Jharkhand government has promised security to railways to enable trains to run during night.
The operating of the goods trains was halted from 9am to 1pm on Sunday as more than 50 trains were brought to a standstill.

The goods trains were stopped at Tatanagar railway station in Jamshedpur under the leadership of BJP state President Dineshanand Goswami. The party workers halted goods trains at Tatanagar, Ghatshila, Adityapur, Bharsawa, Chakradharpur, Chaibasa and Sini until Dineshanand announced the conclusion of the movement in the afternoon.

During the movement, Dr Dineshanand said, “If the railways do not operate trains during night, the party workers will ‘gherao’ Garden Reach and Rail Bhawan.”

According to the railways, if the state guarantees security, the trains can be operated during night.

It is to be noted, 150 people were killed in Gyaneshwari Express accident near Kharagpur on May 28 last year. As a precautionary measure, the Railways had stopped running trains on Kharagpur-Tatanagar-Rourkela route between 10 pm to 4am.
