"In the forth coming Lok Sabha elections the BJP would increase its seats and do better in all northeastern states," said party's national vice-president S.S. Ahluwalia on Thursday.

The party has four Lok Sabha members in Assam and no elected representatives in most of the other states of the region.

Ahluwalia accompanied by party leader Vijay Jolly arrived in Agartala on Friday to supervise the preparations for party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s public rally to be held on February 22nd .

Formally launching his election campaign in the northeast region, Modi addressed rallies in Assam and Manipur on 8th February. Ahluwalia said that after assuming office, the BJP-led government would work for all round development of the North East.

“Despite of having huge untapped resources the region remains backward.  Congress government's wrong policies are responsible for it,” he added

Meanwhile, Trinamool's Tripura committee chairman Ratan Chakraborty told reporters that West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee will address a rally here on 25th February.

Both the BJP and Trinamool have no elected leaders in the local government bodies or in the state Assembly in Left Front-ruled Tripura
