New Delhi: After claiming to stand tall against corruption and stalling the almost entire Monsoon session of the Parliament last year over the issue of corruption, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a surprising move lapped up former Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha who is facing CBI inquiry for his alleged involvement in NRHM scam.

The national party’s move is being seen as a bid to grab sizable population of community in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Surprisingly, the BJP itself had come out strongly against Kushwaha for his involvement in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam.

Now the saffron party is all set to use him against Chief Minister Mayawati. Notably, Kushwaha was a close aide of the UP CM. The BJP’s move has placed its senior leaders in an awkward position.
Strongman Badshah Singh, former BSP MLA also joined the BJP along with Kushwaha.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari is said to be instrumental in inducting BSP leaders in the party given the political importance of the state which sends 81 MPs to the Parliament. Several leaders expressed displeasure with the party decision to induct the BSP leaders into the party.

Earlier, the BJP had named former ministers and BSP leaders Dadan Mishra and Awadhesh Verma and SP MLA Arun Yadav as the party candidates.

Despite BJP terming it as the collective decision, it is party leader Kirit Somaiya who has been upping the ante against Mayawati and her close aides.

Kushwaha joined the BJP in the presence of party vice-president and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar and party’s state unit chief Surya Pratap Sahi.

Giving a clean chit to Kushwaha, fire-brand leader Katiyar said, “There is no case filed in the court against the former BSP minister. Mayawati has used Kushwaha for her vested interests.”
