According to Meerut zone IG Surjeep Pandey, at around 7.20 pm, unidentified assailants came in a car and opened fire at Teotia and others at Raoli Road under Muradnagar police station.

The BJP leader and five others were seriously injured in the incident, he said, adding that even though the police launched a chase, the culprits managed to flee. The injured were initially admitted at a hospital in Ghaziabad from where, Teotia was referred to Fortis Hospital in Noida, the IG said.

Teotia, who had contested the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election from Muradnagar constituency, was on his way to
Ghaziabad when the incident occurred, he added.

"As of now this looks like a case of personal enmity," ADG, Law and Order Daljit Chaudhary. "We have recovered the car which was used in attack on BJP leader, forensic team arrived at the spot," he added.

Uttar Pradesh STF IG Ram Kumar Singh visited the spot. “Large amounts of ammunition including an AK-47 and two 9mm pistols recovered from the attack spot,” the police sources said.

“Brijpal Teotia's life is in danger. He has been taken to operation theater, doctors are trying to save him,” Union Minister Mahesh Sharma informed. “Its a matter of investigation, the police will look into it,” he added.

“We are trying to arrest the culprits. Weapons used in the attack have been recovered,” ADG Law and Order Daljeet Chaudhary said.
“We are praying for his speedy recovery. Situation is critical,” BJP UP general secretary Pankaj Singh said.
