BJP strategists are of the opinion that Modi should contest from Varanasi. There are even reports suggesting that several BJP leaders are trying to convince sitting MP from Varanasi and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, who has been reluctant to give up his seat. The BJP leaders want Joshi to contest from another constituency.

The Central Election Committee is likely to finalise the list of candidates for the states of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal among others.

As the western part of Uttar Pradesh will go to poll on April 10, the state unit of the party is waiting for the names of the candidates to be declared.

The party will contest on 10 western UP seats in the upcoming polls including Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad and Aligarh.

Senior party leaders Lal Krishna Advani, Rajnath Singh, Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Murli Manohar Joshi besides others will meet here to discuss and finalize the party's list of candidates.
