In a statement issued in Hindi, Shah said there have been baseless and imaginary rumours surrounding Rajnath Singh and his son.

"As the party president I believe the conduct of all our ministers is of highest standard, and such propaganda is baseless," the statement said.

Amit Shah's statement came shortly after Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Wednesday denied that the minister's son wasn't fielded in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections due to alleged misconduct.

"This has reference to reports appearing in a section of the media over the past several weeks, mentioning the Prime Minister, and referring to the conduct of some Union Ministers, and alleged misconduct of the Home Minister's son," the PMO said in a statement.
