New Delhi: Taking a tough stand against the rebel party workers, the BJP has suspended seven councillors from the party for the six years. However, they had already tendered their resignation from the primary membership of the party to the national president Nitin Gadkari following the denial of party tickets to them for the MCD elections this year.

Besides MCD’s Works Committee Chairman Jagdish Mamgain, all the suspended councillors are in the fray as independents against the official candidates of the BJP.

On Monday, the party’s state unit president Vijendra Gupta in a press conference informed about the suspension of seven councillors. Besides Mamgain, the other six councillors who have been suspended for six years are Harish Awasthi, Prabha Singh, Beena Abrol, Rajesh Yadav, Sudesh Bhasin and Praveen Rajput.

Harish Awasthi has filed nomination for the urban local body poll as an independent from Rohini ward, Prabha Singh from New Ashok Nagar ward, Beena Abrol from  Lajpat Nagar, Praveen Rajput from Sagarpur, Rajesh Yadav from Mohan Garden and Sudesh Bhasin from Ranibagh ward.

Responding to party’s decision, Harish Awasthi said he is not upset over his suspension. Meanwhile, Prabha Singh said the reaction was expected.
