Lucknow: Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday said it would not allow the forthcoming session of Uttar Pradesh assembly, scheduled to start on Friday, to function if cane prices were not announced by the state government.
"During the core committee meeting of the party held on Tuesday, discussions were held on the government failure to fix cane price in the Cabinet meeting," BJP State president Laxmi Kant Bajpai told reporters in Lucknow.
"The government has nothing to do with the farmers and it is not concerned about them," he alleged. Bajpai demanded that cane farmers should get price at the rate of Rs 400 per quintal. "If due to hike in cane price, there is subsequent rise in price of sugar, subsidy should be given to the consumers," he added.
He said the government should clear the confusion otherwise BJP would agitate from the assembly to the road on the issue of cane, law and order, price rise and delay in setting up of paddy procurement centre.
"The BJP will play an effective role in the assembly and the government will be forced to declare cane price otherwise the party would stall the house," he said. The state President said during the core group meeting ongoing organisational polls were also reviewed.
He said while final decision on the name of candidate was done by the Parliamentary board of the party, names of tentative candidates were also discussed during the core group meeting.
"After State President's election and formation of the state committee, a list will be send to Delhi," he said.
