The bypolls to Balaha and Nighasan are scheduled to be held on September 13 along with nine other Assembly constituencies in the state.

"I have written a letter to the EC requesting to postpone by-election for Balaha and Nighasan seats in the wake of flood situation in Bahraich and Lakhimpur districts," BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai said.

He said that a number of villages have been marooned, roads were washed away and people were forced to take shelter in makeshift arrangements due to floods.

In such a situation, campaigning, arrangements at polling centres and voter turnout on the polling day seemed to be impossible.

"It will be appropriate if you seek a report immediately, postpone the election and consider next date of elections," Bajpai wrote in his letter.

In a separate letter, he has demanded that central force should be deployed and videography of every polling centre should be done during voting.
