Acknowledging the contribution of outgoing BJP president Rajnath Singh, Modi said, "I would like to specially thank Rajnathji for his great leadership, under which the party scaled new heights of success.”

Shah, who is known to be a sharp political strategist, emerged as the unanimous candidate for the coveted post.

Shah played a key role in the BJP’s landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh where the party won 71 of the 80 seats.

BJP workers celebrate Shah’s anointment

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers across the nation on Wednesday celebrated Amit Shah’s anointment as the party chief.

The BJP workers celebrated Shah’s selection for the top post and said that he has shown his capabilities during the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP leaders Meenakshi Lekhi and Ashvath Narayan extended their best wishes to Shah on his new assignment.

“The entire country is in a celebration mood on the occasion of Amit Shah's announcement as the party's national President,” said Narayan, who is the BJP MLA from Bangalore.

Shah will strengthen BJP at national level: Raje

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje also congratulated the newly-appointed BJP President and exuded confidence that the party will be strengthened with him at the helm.
    
Raje lauded the decision saying Shah displayed strong leadership qualities and carved his identity at the national level in a short span, especially by crafting BJP's unprecedented victory in Uttar Pradesh in Lok Sabha elections.
    
She said Shah has been elevated to the post of party president from a dedicated worker owing to his extraordinary leadership and organisational skills.
    
The Rajasthan Chief Minister expressed hope that the BJP would reach out to everyone in the country under his leadership.
    
Meanwhile, celebrations erupted at the party's state headquarters here and workers burst firecrackers, distributed sweets in the presence of the Party's state president Ashok Parnami and other leaders.
    
Rajasthan ministers Rajendra Rathore and Arun Chaturvedi, former minister Digambar Singh and other leaders were also present on the occasion.

UP BJP hails Amit Shah's elevation

Uttar Pradesh unit of BJP also hailed the elevation of Shah, saying after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the state has got yet another strong representation at the top level.
    
BJP's state spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that with leaders like Modi, Rajnath and Shah, UP has once again sealed its place in the national politics.
    
"We extend our heartiest congratulations to Amit Shah on being nominated as BJP president. The party has the privilege that its top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Amit Shah have UP connection," BJP's state spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
    
Modi and Rajnath represent Varanasi and Lucknow constituencies in Lok Sabha respectively, while Shah was UP election in-charge of BJP.
    
He is an able strategist with strong organisational abilities," Pathak said.
    
"Workers in UP are very enthusiastic with Shah's appointment as the national president. We are confident of winning the state Assembly polls and form the government under the leadership of our leaders," Pathak said.
