New Delhi: A month long nation-wide agitation with the slogan "Congress hatao-Desh Bachao" would be carried out from October 10 to November 11, BJP senior leader Venkaiah Naidu said on Saturday.

The party's women morcha would organise a day-long protest demonstration on October 12 against the cap of supply of gas cylinders, he said.

The party is not against reforms, but it needs FDI in strategic sectors like infrastructure, which would result in large scale job opportunities, he said.

Inspite of assurances given to the Parliament on December 7, 2011 that the decision to permit 51 percent FDI in multi-brand trade was suspended till a consensus was developed through consultations among various stakeholders including Chief Ministers of state government and political parties, Naidu said the UPA government announced allowing of FDI in retail trade.

The decision of the UPA government would cause displacement in retail sector and job losses in manufacturing sector, he said.

On the question of economic position of the country, BJP leader claimed the UPA had inherited robust economy from the NDA in 2004 according to the economic survey presented to Parliament after it assumed office that year.

Even the Chidambaram, then finance minister, while presenting the budget on July 8, 2004, admitted the achievements of the NDA government when he said," the economic fundamentals appear strong and the balance of payments is robust", Naidu said.

Holding Congress responsible for the prevailing economic condition in the country, he said," we will not allow this government to divert the attention from scams, price rise and crisis in agriculture sector."
