Policemen stopped the bomber before he could enter the outer wall of the Gaddafi Stadium where he blew himself up on Friday night,  killing the sub-inspector.

The Pakistan Broadcasters Association in conjunction with the Information Ministry earlier decided to not report the incident in order to avoid any untoward incident such as a stampede during the  match at the stadium. The 50-over match, however, remained uninterrupted amid the explosions.

An auto rickshaw and three motorcycles were damaged in the blasts and two policemen were slightly injured," a witness said.

"Senior police officials have said the blasts happened a distance away from the stadium near Kalma Chowk," he said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board and the Punjab government have made elaborate security arrangements for the touring Zimbabwe team with hundreds of policemen, intelligence officers and commandos on duty at the Gaddafi stadium as part of the security cordon.
