Islamabad: Targeted at a US consulate vehicle, a blast killed one person and injured 10 others in Peshawar city in northwest Pakistan on Friday. Though there was no American fatality, officials said.

The blast occurred in Jamrud Road area of Peshawar this morning, officials said. An armoured SUV from the US consulate bore the brunt of the blast and rammed into an electricity pylon.

No American national was seriously injured, a spokesman of the US embassy in Islamabad said.

The dead man was believed to be a passer-by. Doctors described the condition of one of the injured as serious.

Security forces cordoned off the site of the explosion and launched a search operation.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast.
