Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has banned playing of Bollywood and regional songs portraying alcohol in educational institutions, which will spur students to consume liquor.

The state government has issued a notification to all educational institutions in the state that alcohol related song will not be played during any function at school and college.

Confirming the report, Principal Secretary (education) Srikant Baldi said ban has been sought on playing of songs that promote liquor in schools, colleges and universities of the state.

“The move was taken after complaints were received that such songs were played during functions in schools and colleges,” said Baldi.

Apart from this, the state government has also banned promotion of alcohol and smoking in plays. However, a play can be presented showing ill effects of smoking and alcohol consumption.

Earlier, the government had banned playing of vulgar songs in educational institutions.  Baldi said a strict action will be taken against defaulter.
