New Delhi: Railway passengers who want to book their tickets online will no longer have to wait endlessly for the railway website to open. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the online ticketing operations of the railways, is developing new software for the convenience of the passengers.

Mr. Pradeep Kundu, Spokesperson, IRCTC, said that the new software will be developed before Diwali. This modern software will be capable enough to book around 12-15 thousand tickets per minute. The present software has a capacity to book mere 1000 tickets per minute given the fact that in peak season, 15-20 thousand people hit the site to book tickets. It is also worth telling that each day approximately 4 lakh people book their tickets via IRCTC.
Passengers can be seen waiting for hours to book the E-Ticket as the IRCTC website perennially remains down in the mornings. The railway’s move of revising the time for Tatkal Ticket Booking has definitely eased the load on IRCTC website but its speed is still an issue. That is the reason IRCTC took a decision to develop new software. According to officials, there has been a significant increase in the number of passengers booking ticket via IRCTC.
