London: Boys at university miss their mothers more while girls tend to enjoy their new-found freedom and opportunity to look after themselves, a new study has claimed.

According to the study of 1,000 students, which was commissioned by National Express, nearly a third of the boys said that they would travel back home "just for a nice home-cooked meal."

"Being independent and making new friends is an exciting part of university. But everyone needs home comforts at times," a daily quoted Carly O'Donnell, of National Express as saying.

"Almost half the students we spoke to were surprised by how much they missed home, with a quarter travelling back within their first two weeks.

"A third said lack of money prevented them going home as often as they'd like," O'Donnell added.
