Rio De Janeiro: Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has called on leaders in industrialised countries to take swift action to tackle the economic crisis that has hit the US and the European Union (EU) particularly hard.Rousseff Tuesday said developed countries should make more efforts to bring the situation under control.

The president was responding to reports that the EU summit Sunday failed to make any progress on dealing with the ongoing global economic crisis, reported Xinhua.

'It is necessary to prevent countries from transferring the cost (of the crisis) to others, whether through exchange rate policies or financial imbalances,' she said.

Rousseff met her Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich earlier in the day to discuss the current global economic situation and the Nov 3-4 G-20 Summit in Cannes, France.
