Two prominent figures of Uttarakhand politics- state Cabinet Minister Matbar Singh Kandari and and Leader of Opposition Harak Singh Rawat of Congress- are contesting from prestigious Rudraprayag seat in Uttarakhand. Interestingly both are brother-in-laws.

As many as 11 candidates from national and regional parties and independents will face the litmus test in the constituency having 84040 voters. The politics in the state has intensified with two political stalwarts fighting for Rudraprayag seat.

Kandari was contesting from Jakholi block of Rudraprayag before the bifurcation of Uttar Pradesh. He was two time winner from this seat. On the other hand, the Congress representative Harak Singh Rawat was elected as an MLA from Pauri and Landsowne in the past. He won the Landsowne constituency twice.

In order to woo the voters, the Congress leader is banking on the incumbency factor while Kandari is highlighting his achievements in his tenure. Rawat on the other hand is banking on taking credits for getting district status for the constituency.
