Silchar (Assam): Amid the growing anger over the horrific rape of a five-year-old girl, the nation is shaken by similar incidents of barbarism with minors in past couple of days.

Even before the country could overcome the shock of brutal gang-rape of a five-year-old in Delhi and rape of a four-year-old in Madhya Pradesh, another heinous crime was reported from Assam’s Silchar district.

Assam: According to media reports coming from Assam, a nine-year-old was abducted and gang-raped by two unidentified men. There were reports that the men tried to slit her throat after the crime.

The nine-year-old from Karimganj had gone to visit her grandfather in Pechachora village under Kallain police station of Katigora sub-division when she was kidnapped by two unidentified persons, with their faces covered, on Sunday evening, they said.

Muzzafarnagar (UP): A 10-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth at Jasala village in the Shamli district, police said on Monday. Accused, Baljora Kashyap, allegedly abducted the victim who was playing near her house and assaulted her last evening, police said.

Delhi: Amid public outrage over the rape of a five-year-old girl here, two more minors were brutalised in Delhi, police said on Sunday.

An 11-year-old girl was raped in the afternoon by her 22-year-old neighbour when she was alone at her house in Bhalaswa Dairy area in north Delhi, police said. Accused Pawan was caught by the girl's neighbours who were alerted by her screams, police said.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old girl was Friday abducted and gang-raped by two people in Samaypur Badli area in north Delhi, police said.The victim's family approached police Saturday morning and her medical examination confired rape, police said. The victim told police that Rinku and Vinod abducted her from outside a house and took her to a vacant plot in the area. The two raped her and dumped her outside the house.

Madhya Pradesh: Among the incidents was a gang-rape of a five-year-old girl by three minors in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh . The boys allegedly pulled the victim into an auto rickshaw and took turns to rape her. The girl was later found in the auto by her parents. The victim is now receiving medical treatment for her injuries.

Delhi: On Sunday, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by eight men, four of whom were known to her . The victim and her 12-year-old brother were abducted by two men known to her on March 15 from outside her house at Farsh Bazar area in east Delhi and taken to Loni in the city outskirts, where she was gangraped by the eight, a police officer said.

Madhya Pradesh: A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh and suffered severe brain injuries. On Sunday, she was shifted to a private hospital in Nagpur, where she continues to be in critical condition.

According to Madhya Pradesh police, the girl was allegedly raped by a person named Firoz Khan on April 17 in Ghansour town, after which he dumped her at a farm. The girl's parents found her unconscious the next morning and she was taken to hospital.

The incidents come at the back of rising anger over the horrific rape of a five-year-old in East Delhi, who underwent a reconstruction surgery. The five-year-old girl was brutally raped for two days and kept without food and water in a room in which the accused, her neighbor. Delhi has seen 393 rapes in the first three months of the year.

Brutal sex crimes are common in the country. New Delhi has the highest number of sex crimes among major cities, with a rape reported on average every 18 hours, according to police figures.

But most such crimes go unreported and justice is slow, according to social activists, who say successive governments have done little to ensure the safety of women and children.
