Muzaffarnagar: Hundreds of residents in the district on Thursday protested outside Kakroli police station, demanding immediate arrest of a Samajwadi Party leader booked for the murder of a BSP activist.

Protesters were demanding arrest of District SP General Secretary Mairajuddin, who along with six others were booked by police for the murder of BSP activist Alem.

The 31-year-old activist was shot dead at Tewra village on January 28. The village falls under the jurisdiction of Kakroli police station, where the protest was organised on Thursday.

Alem's family allege Mairajuddin and six of his accomplices were behind Alam's murder. As no arrest made so far in this connection, even two days after of the incident, the protestors along with the family members of the deceased, demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
