Lucknow: Taking a serious note of the concerted efforts made by the Congress scion Rahul Gandhi to woo the Muslim voters ahead of Uttar Pradesh assembly election, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is no mood to allow her arch rivals to dent the vote bank of the BSP.

In the forthcoming rally of BSP on December 18, the party functionaries have shifted their focus on the Muslim community.

Muslims constitute 19 percent of the total electorate in Uttar Pradesh and play a decisive role for more than 150 constituencies. It is due to this reason both the ruling dispensation at the Centre and state are in the race to woo Muslim voters.

In the last assembly elections, the BSP fielded 64 Muslim candidates for several constituencies in the state, out of which 30 marked victory. On similar note, the party has distributed tickets among Muslim members in western belt.

On the other, the Congress has also given tickets to 26 Muslim candidates out of 213 contestants. Interestingly, in the last elections the Congress succeeded to tilt Muslims to its favour which helped to claim victory over 22 constituencies.
