Lucknow: Brewing more troubles for outgoing UP Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh, newly elected Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs have opposed his nomination for Rajya Sabha. Following which, Party Supremo Mayawati cancelled his candidature for the Upper House.

The nomination process for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats has started from Monday. Given the BSP’s tally in new assembly, it can win only two seats as the party managed to get only 80 seats in 403-member house.

Undoubtedly, one seat will be reserved for Mayawati while the name of Shashank Shekhar for the other seat has not been ascertained.

The high profile bureaucrat’s dominance over the party can be gauged from the fact that Shashank Shekhar would fix the appointment of party MLAs and ministers with the CM.

In a meeting with Mayawati, the MLAs expressed strong reservations against the nomination of Shashank Shekhar for the Upper House.

Given the stern opposition over the issue, Mayawati is unlikely to nominate either millionaire or bureaucrat to the Rajya Sabha. In the view of doldrums, senior party leader Munkad Ali may be elected for the Upper House.
