Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday snubbed veteran CPM leader Anil Basu for using abusive language against Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee and asked him to be cautious in future.

Addressing an election meeting on Friday, Anil Basu, a seven-term MP from Arambagh, used abusive language against Mamata Banerjee.

Expressing displeasure over the issue, the Chief Minister said, “The use of abusive language is really unpardonable and being a Communist it is really intolerable.” Buddhadeb said his party would take strong action against Anil Basu so that other leaders should avoid using such language in future.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has demanded the Election Commission to take strict action against Basu.

Opposition leader in the state assembly, Partha Chatterjee said, "We have met   the Chief Electoral Officer urging him to put Basu behind bars for using offensive language against the Trinamool chief."
