Chandigarh: The Haryana government is planning to bring real estate builders, property dealers and e-businessmen under the tax ambit. The state government has started a survey to identify the builders, property dealers and e-businessmen who can come under the tax net but have not been paying any tax till now.

If the state government is successful in bringing these people under the tax ambit, the tax collection in the state will grow by thousands of crores. Tax Assessment officials have been deployed in the field for the survey. The DETO and ETO are monitoring the survey. They will be presenting the report directly to the Minister next month.

Apart from the current survey, there is another campaign which is running to bring those people in the tax net whose turnover is above Rs 5 lakhs. Tax collection of Rs 19,703.65 crore has been done in 2012-13 which is 9.45 percent greater than the total tax collection of 18,077 crore in the year 2011-12. The rise in tax collection has been witnessed during times when the economy is going through a slow down.

According to Department of Excise and Taxation, Haryana, if more such people can be brought under the tax ambit, then revenue collection will grow by leaps and bounds which will go a long way in the development of the state.  The State Excise and Taxation Minister Kiran Chaudhary has already held a meeting to address the issue.

The officials have been directed to identify the areas where there is scope for revenue collection. The officials have been given a month’s time to complete the work. Only after a complete review meeting on the report, a decision can be taken as to who all can be brought under the ambit of tax.
