Lucknow: In an order issued by Uttar Pradesh government, administrators (bureaucrats) will now take over the charge from elected municipal representatives like mayor, chairman, councillors and other members of the Urban Local Body soon after they complete five years of tenure from the date of oath taking.

The Principal Secretary ,Urban Development Durga Shankar Mishra cited inevitable circumstances behind deployment of administrators and mentioned compulsions behind delay in conducting local by -polls in the state.

As informed by the Special Secretary for Urban Development vipin Kumar Diwedi , mandate has been sent to divisional commissioners, district magistrates and city commissioners

Citing 1959 Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act for 13 Nagar Nigams and 1916 Uttar Pradesh Municipal Act for 194 Nagar Palika and 423 Nagar Panchayats, the order clearly stated  that the five year term for the representatives  of Urban local Bodies (mayor, chairman, Councillor , member) will be counted from their first meeting.

It was learnt that the meeting called for the swearing of the session will be known as the first meeting of representatives local bodies .

Notably, the notification to this effect was issued by State Election Commission on October 13 2006 and swearing of the local body representative took place on November 14, 2006. In such situation tenure of majority have expired by Sunday night.

Since, many members of the municipal corporation took oath from November 14 to 20, their tenure will finish on November 19. Thereafter, command will be handed over to gazetted officers like District magistrate and sub-District Magistrate.
