Kozhikode: Revenue minister Adoor Prakash on Thursady said the special cabinet meeting on Friday would decide on the issue of financial aid to be given to those affected by flash floods and landslides in Kozhikode and Kannur district in Malabar region.

Speaking to reporters after meeting revenue, agriculture and district officials, he said the meeting had discussed steps to be taken on a war footing in the affected areas.

As per preliminary estimates, about Rs 10 crore worth crops in over 750 acres of land had been severely affected by the flash floods and landslips, he said.

"If we take into consideration the value of the land, the total loss due to the floods would be approximately Rs 100 to Rs 150 crore," he said.

He said power supply has been disrupted due to snapping of electrical wire and posts and approxiately Rs 25 lakh was required to repair the damages. Authorities have been asked to take steps to set right it in the next four days, he said.

About Rs one crore was required to repair a damaged road in Pulloorampara, the worst affected place in Kozhikode, he said.

Eight persons have been killed in landslips triggered by heavy rains in Kozhikode district and Kannur.

The search for a nine-year old girl in Pulloorampara in Kozhikode was progressing, sources said.
