Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said British Prime Minister David Cameron's terming of the Jallianwala Bagh incident as "deeply shameful" was historic for the country.
Welcoming Cameron's visit to the Jallianwala Bagh to pay tributes to the martyrs, Badal said it would help in creating a healthy and harmonious atmosphere.
The visit would help in enhancing economic development, he said, according to an official release. The Chief Minister said the country, especially Punjab, had been waiting since long for a high-profile British leader to condemn the massacre in strongest possible words.

Writing in the visitor's book of Jallianwalla Bagh, Cameron said "this was a deeply shameful act in British history."
