The Supreme Court asked this question on Friday in view of the several cases of failed relationships and women filing rape charges against the man.

However, the Apex court did not pass any order and raised concern over the rising number of such cases in the society.

It should be noted that several cases have come to the fore in which a woman in failed relationship had filed rape charges against the man accusing him of indulging into a sexual relationship on the promise of marriage.

It is worth mentioning that the Delhi High Court had last year mentioned in one of the rape cases that the act is used by many as a weapon for ‘vengeance and vendetta’ to harass and even force a man to marry.

The issue came to limelight with the case of a top IDFC banker and a former cabin crew member with an international airline.

The woman in her complaint accused the man of sexually abusing her on the promise of marriage and threatening to circulate an indecent video prepared by him.
