New Delhi: World Junior chess champion Fabiano Caruana, women's world champion Hou Yifan along with Indian GMs Krishnan Sasikiran and Parimarjan Negi are the star attractions in the six-player field at the inaugural AAI Grandmasters Chess Tournament which will start here from June 22.

The venue for the tournament will be AAI Officer's Institute near Safdarjung airport.

Apart from the quartet, the other two who will feature in the tournament are czech national champion Viktor Laznicka and Filipino No 1 Wesley So. The players will be pitted against each other in a double round robin format.

The star attraction apart from Sasikiran will certainly be Caruana who enjoys dual citizenship of Italy and the United States. Caruana who is still a month short of his 19th birthday currently lives in Madrid.

"I have never been to India before and I very much look forward to playing in India. I also looking forward to experiencing Indian culture with things like food, customs and much else," Caruana said.

Laznicka has twice been to India in 2008 and 2009 for particpating in the Kolkata Open Chess Championship. In 2008, he was joint winner along with Sasikiran.

"I like many things about India. I like the way chess players are treated in India," Laznicka said.

The Czech termed Caruana and Sasikiran as the favourites to win the title. For Sasikiran and Negi, it will be good preparation for World Cup which will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk later this year.
