Guwahati: Accusing Assam's Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for violating model code of conduct, senior advocate Rintu Goswami registered a police complaint against him.

The Chief Minister on Sunday addressed a press conference at Jorhat district. Notably, first phase of Assembly polls in 62 of the 126 constituencies is to be held on Monday and CM’s constituency Titawar comes under the Jorhat district.

“The Chief Minister's action is illegal and it violates the model code of conduct. A case has been registered against Section 123 and 136 of the Representation of People Act,” said Goswami.

Charging the administration for failing to initiate enquiry, Goswami alleged that even though the administration had knowledge of CM addressing the press conference, no action was taken by the authorities to stop him. “It reflects the influence of the Chief Minister on the district administration,” alleged Goswami.

Meanwhile, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has filed a case before Chief Election Officer (CEO) Ramesh Chandra Jain against Gogoi for violating code of conduct.

AGP contestant Hitendranath Goswami has appealed the Election Commission to ensure that no news item related to Gogoi’s press conference should be published.
