Mohali: Showing disrespect to the Indian flag by stomping on it, a woman International Cricket Council (ICC) official has been booked in the case, police said on Saturday.

Identified as Holika Sen Oberoi, the accused, works as legal advisor to ICC. She was allegedly seen doing this outside the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here on Wednesday afternoon when India was playing against Pakistan. She was booked on Friday.

Mohali district police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "We have registered a case for showing disrespect to the national flag after going through video footage. We had got the complaint from a local NGO in this regard. Our investigation is on and we would soon call the accused for questioning."

When onlookers objected, Oberoi had a heated argument with them. Dozens of furious fans gathered at the spot and started arguing with her. Oberoi said the balloons and flags were illegally using the ICC's official hologram on them.

However, sources said after the incident, the ICC had issued an unconditional apology over the incident.
