Pathankot: Police on Saturday claimed to have solved robbery case of a cooperative bank here with the arrest of two bank employees.

Cashier Sham Lal and bank clerk Rajinder Singh allegedly lied to the police that three unidentified men stole Rs 35.8 lakh at gunpoint from the Central Co-operative bank on Saturday, SSP Surinder Kumar Kalia said.

Lal and Singh embezzled Rs 22 lakh from the bank, and cooked up the story of a robbery to cover up their crime, the SSP said.

Both the accused were arrested and Rs 22 lakh cash was recovered from them, Kalia said.

Lal was under the scanner as during investigation, police had found that he had opened the branch about one and a half hour earlier without informing senior officials or branch manager, he said.
