New Delhi: In a reflection of the kind of fear the Right to Information (RTI) has instilled amongst the members of the bureaucracy, a Delhi Jal Board official was arrested by the CBI here for bribing an RTI applicant to take back his application that would have exposed his wrongdoings.

S K Jain, an Assistant Engineer with Delhi Jal Board, was arrested red-handed for bribing Rs 1 lakh to an RTI applicant on Thursday evening. Later he was sent to 14 days judicial custody on Friday by the Patiala House Court.

Jain offered bribe to an RTI applicant who had filed an application seeking some information from the board. Apprehensive of getting exposed for his share of irregularities, Jain offered the RTI applicant Rs 1 lakh for withdrawing the application.

However, the RTI applicant informed the CBI about Jain’s offer. The CBI sleuths laid a trap for Jain, who was later caught red-handed.
