Chandigarh: The anti-corruption branch of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Sunday, arrested DSP Raka Ghera for accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe. Acting on a complaint, CBI laid a trap at her residence in Sector 15 and in the sudden raid recovered cash and assets worth crores from the police official’s house.

DSP (Traffic) Ghera was arrested for allegedly accepting the bribe from a Mohali based builder. It is believed that property dealer builder Krishna Kumar Malhotra had filed a complaint against Ghera.

The CBI sleuths seized cartons filled with lakhs of rupess, fixed deposits to the tune of to Rs 70 lakhs and jewellery worth crores of rupees. To calculate the total number of currency notes, CBI had to use cash counting machines. Cash worth Rs 1.10 crore was recovered from her residence.

According to the sources, Ghera received complaint of land dispute in Mullampur village. Krishna Kumar Malhotra was charged on certain irregularities related to the land. In his statement to CBI, Malhotra informed that to settle the issue, Ghera had demanded bribe of Rs 2 lakhs.

Ghera’s husband Ranbeer Singh was as DSP in Punjab Police. However, few years back, he died in a road mishap. Thereafter, in 1999 Ghera was appointed as Inspector in Punjab Police. Ghera’s father-in-law had retired from the post of Inspector General in Punjab police.
