New Delhi: Sacked chief of Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee (OC), Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday sought bail before a Delhi court on the grounds that now he does not hold any post in the committee so he cannot influence or tamper with the evidence.

After hearing the arguments of defence counsel, Special CBI Judge of Patiala House Court Talwant Singh posted the matter for further hearing on May 30.

The CBI on May 20 filed its first chargesheet in the case against Kalmadi and 10 others, describing him as a prime accused and the mastermind in the corruption case.

During the hearing, Public Prosecutor said, “Kalmadi is an influential person and there is evidence on record that he had threatened a number of persons.”

Defence counsel Siddharth Luthra, pressing for bail to Kalmadi said only two companies (Swiss Timing Limited of Switzerland and MSL of Spain) participated during the tenders opened for the award of TSR contract. “Contract was given to the better of the two. There was no fault of Kalmadi in it,” Luthra pleaded.
