Ghazibad: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed its first chargesheet in the multi-crore-rupee National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh against seven people and a firm in the special court on Tuesday.

The CBI filed the chargesheet against Jal Nigam former general manager (C&S) PK Jain, former Project Manager BN Srivastava, former Resident Engineer Kataar Sing, BN Ram Yadav, JK Singh, Surgicoin Mediquip Private Limited Managing Director Naresh Grover, Modern Enterprises MD RK Singh and firm Surgicoin Mediquip Private Limited.

Interestingly, the CBI did not chargesheet former minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, it only named him as one of the conspirators.

The agency said Kushwaha, who was arrested last month, conspired with the five government officials and two suppliers in a case related to upgradation of 134 district hospitals under the NRHM scheme. The chargesheet, filed before the special CBI judge at a Ghaziabad court, pegged the total loss caused to the government at Rs 7.94 crore

According to CBI sources, the chargesheet alleges that scam worth Rs 13 crore was mentioned in the report initially filed in January this year due to which the department was said to have incurred revenue loss to the tune of Rs 5.46 crore.

The CBI, however, during its subsequent investigation has found that the department had incurred a loss of Rs 7.94 crore. Moreover, the CBI, in its chargesheet, has also alleged that a massive 68 percent bribe was paid in the funds allocated for the NRHM scheme. The chargesheet said that the investigation is in process against former minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, former Bahujan Samaj Party MLA RP Jaiswal, Girish Malik, Ramesh Bhatia and other suspects.

Meanwhile, BN Srivastava, BN Ram Yadav and Jal Nigam Accounting Officer (C&S) JK Singh, arrested on Monday by the CBI, were produced in the court on Tuesday. Kushwaha, Jaiswal, PK Jain, RK Singh and Kataar Singh were also produced in the court. The court has sent all the accused to judicial custody till April 17.
