Moradabad: In a development in the multi-crore-rupee National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has got crucial leads about the alleged involvement of a retired Chief Medical Officer (CMO) misappropriation of funds in the procurement of medical equipments under the scheme between 2006 and 2008.

Vivek Jain, relative of Babu Singh Kushwaha’s close associate Saurabh Jain who is behind the bars in connection with alleged irregularities in the purchase of medicines and medical equipments. It is alleged that medicines were purchased at ten times more than the actual price for the health fair during the period.

He told CBI that an eye-drop worth Rs 4 was purchased at a whopping price of Rs 40. Malpractices like replacing the exact place and name of medical equipments were also reported to derive maximum benefits which were to be used in the health fair.
