Srinagar: The country’s top investigating agency has made itself a laughing stock once again by admitting that it has limited information about Kashmir’s most wanted fugitive, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin alias Mohammad Yusuf Shah.

Ironically, the terrorist’s detailed information and photo is easily available with Jammu and Kashmir police, security agencies and even media houses but when it comes to the CBI, they present a sorry picture.

The CBI website’s section on Interpol notices confesses ignorance about the date and place of his birth. It says it has no information about his height or about the colour of his eyes or hair. The list only mentions that Interpol issued a red corner notice against the dreaded leader Mohammad Yusuf Shah in 1998.

Worse, the CBI doesn’t even have a picture of Salahuddin, whose photos appear on Valley newspapers almost every other day. The only thing the agency knows is that he is an Indian national, which Salahuddin disputes, and that he speaks Hindi, Urdu and Kashmiri.

Notably, Syed Salahuddin whose real name is Mohammad Yusuf Dar alias Yusuf Shah is a resident of Soibugh in Budgam district. He even contested the Assembly elections in the Valley in 1987.

A state police official said on the condition of anonymity, “If CBI did not have adequate information about the known terrorist leader it could have informed us or they could have taken the help of internet for more information on Syed Salahuddin.”
