New Delhi: Since the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was unable to find labourers for construction of Vasant Kunj flats for Commonwealth Games, it launched a novel scheme of providing meals to them during the work. Taking advantage of the scheme, the DDA officials allegedly made profits by paying twice for the meals.

According to reports, the hard-pressed DDA officials started the meal scheme for labourers constructing 5, 000 flats in Vasant Kunj area in June-July last year. It decided to increase the tender by 10 percent to cover the cost for the scheme.

Since the DDA was lagging behind in the construction project, it created four divisions to accomplish the task on time, and assigned the task to Executive Engineer of South-West division-2, DK Dhai. Executive Engineer of the same zone of division-4 A K Jha, AK Nahta of division-5 of south-east zone and division-7 of the same zone AK Mittal were appointed.

According to sources in the CBI, they received a written complaint from an anonymous source. The contents of the letter seemed solid on which the agency started its investigation.
The CBI team lead by Inspector SK Khullar has started the probe and has investigated the files of officers involved in the scheme.
