New Delhi: Union Minister for Rural Development Vilasrao Deshmukh may face trouble ahead as CBI is preparing to question the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra for his role in the Adarsh Housing Society scam.

Even though the Minister’s name does not figure in the FIR (first information report) of CBI, the premier investigating agency is still preparing to grill the Union Minister.

Significantly, Adarsh Housing Society got approval from the Maharashtra government when Deshmukh was at the helm of affairs.

“The role of Deshmukh in Adarsh Society scam is being probed. The agency is trying to figure out his role in approving the society and whether he benefited from it. Deshmukh could be called for interrogation very soon,” one of the CBI officials said.

On being asked about any benami flat in the name of Deshmukh in Adarsh Society, the official said, “The agency has been investigating social, political and family backgrounds of all the members in the Society. This will help us know from where the members managed the money to buy flats or whether the money was provided to them by politicians indirectly.”

The official claimed the agency will very soon find out the real owners of benami flats in the Adarsh Society.
