New Delhi: Despite serious charges of corruption leveled against MCI Secretary Sangeeta Sharma, the CBI is waiting for orders to conduct an investigation.

After CBI’s request, Delhi based hospital Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) provided information and files related to the case but the investigating agency is still waiting for orders to start inquiry.

MCI Secretary Sangeeta Sharma denied her involvement in MRI machine deal with IHBAS.

As per the documents available with Dainik Jagran, the CBI had informed the Health Ministry that charges found against Sharma and IHBAS former director Meena Gupta were true and asked for further probe into the matter.

But, the Health Ministry forwarded the letter to the Delhi government and the hospital administration. Despite having files and related information from IHBAS, the Centre and the state governments are mum over the issue.

Present IHBAS Director Nimesh G Desai in his report said the files with the hospital did not clear as how were the terms and conditions modified for installation of the MRI machine in the hospital.

“It was decided that the company which will install the machine will provide free treatment to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families provided,” his report reads.

However, later on it was decided that the hospital will also pay the private company.

Further, Sharma denied her role in this connection. According to Sharma, she was the purchase officer but the terms and conditions were modified at the Chief Secretary level.

She also accused Desai and said he was the head of the purchasing committee during the procurement of the machine.

“Why is he not responding to the questions raised by the special audit? Everyone is pointing fingers at me because I became MCI Secretary,” she said.
