New Delhi: In order to improve health of young girls in rural areas, Union Health Ministry has come up with a special programme under which an awareness campaign will be launched to make them conscious of their health and hygiene. Besides, the girls will also be provided with sanitary napkins at cheaper rates.

According to reports, the Ministry has basically started this programme considering the girls falling under age group of 11 to 19, as it felt that due to lack of information and facilities, they confront many diseases.

Under the campaign, which started under the National Rural Health Mission, the girls will be provided with a pack of six napkins at Rs 6. The NGO Aasha which would ensure the supply of these packs will get the benefit of Re 1 on each pack.

In the first phase, the campaign will be launched in 152 districts of 20 states along with making the residents aware of the health and hygiene.

As per the Ministry, this campaign will also help the girls in rural areas to shed their inhibitions related to menstrual cycle.
