New Delhi:  Keeping in view the approaching Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Central government has expedited work on several thermal power projects including the 500 MW Unchahar Thermal Power Station in Raebareli for which the Coal Ministry will soon allocate coal blocks.

The Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal also gave in- principal approval for setting up 2,000 MW power plant in Ghatampur, Kanpur. He also reviewed the Bilhaur based power project of 1,320 MW for which National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has already issued tenders to buy equipments.

Along with these power projects in UP, the Coal Ministry has given approval for allocation of coal blocks to NTPC's power projects -1,600 MW at Kudgi in Karnataka; 1,600 MW at Gajmara in Orissa and 3,960 MW at Berethi in Madhya Pradesh.
