Srinagar: A Central government team headed by Dr. Tishyarakshit Chatterjee, Secretary, Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) visited Dal lake and Nagin lake along with environment scientists to take stock of the conservation and management projects here on Tuesday.

In a meeting of officials of the central team, state administration and Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), the progress of running and upcoming projects were also assessed.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress in Dal and Nagin Lake projects, Chatterjee said that the Central Government will definitely come up with rehabilitation programmes for the people here in near future.

Chatterjee asked the environmental experts to conduct research on the possibility of electricity production from methane gas so that it can be used in STP projects.

The upcoming Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) projects in Brari Nambal and Nala Amir Khan are likely to be completed by March 2012.

Presently around 85 percent houses are connected to the STP channel through the existing sewage plants.
