New Delhi: After Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s rally at Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has announced a string of sops including four road projects worth Rs 4,500 crores for the state going to polls in next year.

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) on Wednesday approved 15 road projects, out of which four are in the UP.

Road Transport and Highways Secretary AK Upadhyay said, “The construction of 1,814 km roads will cost a massive amount worth Rs 15,680 crore.”

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will construct 10 projects. Two projects will be constructed by the Rajasthan Public Works Department and remaining three will be completed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation.
The government aims at constructing 7,300 km road under the national highways projects. 5,500 km road was constructed last year.

CCI has already invited bid for the most of the road projects. Around 40 to 80 percent land has been acquired. After the technical bid, the financial bid process will be completed by the end of this month.

Road Transport and Highways Ministry has invited the financial bid for the construction of 4,653 km roads. Out of which, the contract has already been awarded for 3051 km road.
